What is Mohs Surgery?
Mohs micrographic surgery is the most effective and advanced treatment for skin cancer today. It is a specialized method for the removal of skin cancer that combines surgery with microscopic margin analysis. Mohs surgery achieves this high cure rate because the cancer is removed with the highest precision while healthy skin and tissue are spared. It offers the highest potential for cure – even if the skin cancer has been previously treated by another method.
Mohs surgeons are specially trained to fulfill three roles:
1. Surgeon, who removes the cancerous tissue
2. Pathologist who analyzes the lab specimens
3. Surgeon who closes or reconstructs the wound
